Delhi under severe grip of Cold Wave, Temperatures to drop further

A chill in the air is forecasted to hit the city of Delhi and the surrounding region next week, with temperatures potentially dropping as low as 3 degrees Celsius. Yesterday, the minimum temperature in Delhi was recorded at 10.2 degrees Celsius.

According to the Indian Meteorological Department, a cold wave is expected to hit several areas in Delhi between January 16th and 18th. The minimum temperature in Ayanagar and Ridge may reach as low as 3 degrees Celsius on Tuesday and Wednesday.

After experiencing several weeks of bitter cold nights, this forecast means that conditions may worsen for residents of Delhi. The weather department has issued a warning for frostbite and advises people to limit their time spent outdoors.

“Eat foods high in Vitamin C and drink warm fluids to maintain a strong immune system. Limit outdoor activities,” the meteorological department advised.

Another weather agency, Skymet, has reported that icy winds from the North have already led to a decrease in temperatures in the states of Rajasthan and Gujarat. However, the agency refutes the claims of an expert who predicted that temperatures in Delhi could reach as low as -4 degrees Celsius next week.

“Delhi may experience a minimum of 3-4 degrees between 16th and 18th of January, but will not drop below 0 degrees. Some isolated areas may see a minimum of around 2 degrees,” Skymet stated in a tweet.

The extremely low temperatures are expected to have the most severe impact on the homeless population and animals, and authorities have begun preparing additional shelters.

Delhi HC directs former BJP Rajya Sabha MP Subramanian Swamy to vacate govt bungalow

New Delhi, Sep 14 (IANS) The Delhi High Court on Wednesday directed former BJP Rajya Sabha MP Subramanian Swamy to hand over the possession of his government bungalow to the estate officer within six weeks.

Citing security reasons, Swamy, who was the former Union Minister, was allotted the government accomodation in the Lutyens zone by the cabinet committee on January 15, 2016 for a period of five years.

He was knocking the doors of the high court seeking re-allotment of the accommodation citing ‘continuing security threats’. His Rajya Sabha term came to an end in April 2022.

The Centre opposed his plea arguing that the accommodation was required to be given to other ministers and MPs.

Hearing Swamy’s plea, Justice Yashwant Varma observed that the original allotment was made for a period of five years and there was no material to show that the applicant required the allotment of the government bungalow as per his claims.

“The Court further directs the petitioner to ensure that the possession in question is handed over to the estate officer concerned within a period of six weeks from today,” the court said, while disposing of the plea.

CBSE to hold re-exam on April 25 for Class 12 Economics, Class X Undecided

Battered CBSE has announced a re-test for Class 12 Economics paper on April 25 throughout the country. It has further clarified that the Class 10 Maths paper re-test will be held, if required, in July, that too in Delhi, Haryana and NCR region and not all over the country, giving relief to many Class 10 students elsewhere in the country.

The ambiguity over Class X mathematics paper is due to the fact that the leak was confined to Delhi and Punjab, and once the enquiry is completed, the board will decide whether to hold the exam or not, said Anil Swarup, Secretary, School Education, in the Union Human Resource Development Ministry.

“The leak was restricted to Delhi and Haryana. If at all a re-exam will happen, it will happen only in these states in July. A decision will be taken on this in the next 15 days,” Swarup told reporters.

Referring to the Class 12 economics paper, the re-test will be held on April 25 not not outside the country as the leak confined to India only, said the HRD official. He further clarified that there will be no delay in the publication of results in May as per the schedule.

Replying to protests and demands that the CBSE chief should be removed, he said only after the enquiry, the responsibility on people who are behind the paper leak. “Action will be taken against whoever is responsible. But you cannot pre-empt the inquiry. Without inquiry action will not be possible,” he said and added that there will be two levels of inquiry, one is the police inquiry and the other is a departmental inquiry.

It may be recalled that in 2014, Class 12 physics paper was leaked in one of the northeastern sates and the CBSE pleaded in the apex court that a re-test was not required since the leak was limited to a region and the online access was not visibly seen in other places.

New Born Declared Dead Comes to Life Just Before Funeral

In a repetition of several such incidents where the patients are declared dead without proper checks, a hospital in Warangal, Telangana declared a four-day-old baby dead on Sunday but when she started moving at the cremation grounds, parents realised the faux pas but in vain.

The baby delivered at a private hospital weighed just 450 grams and was brought to MGM hospital in Warangal for neonatal intensive care unit, which has ventilator and oxygen facilities.
On Sunday morning at 11.30 am, the doctor on duty declared the baby dead and issued a death certificate too when parents decided to take the body to the cremation ground for the final rites.

When they found the baby moving, they rushed back to the same hospital where doctors again declared the baby dead, causing commotion and outrage among the relatives for their negligence in declaring the baby dead in the first instance and thus denying proper care. The parents said the doctors failed to properly check the ECG to determine the baby’s condition before declaring the baby dead.

Two weeks ago, in Delhi Safdarjung Hospital too a newborn, weighing around 460 gm was not revived after an abortion citing international norm but the baby was found alive later. Doctors who said, “It was technically an abortion because the delivery took place in the 20th week of pregnancy. Internationally, the norm says such children should not be revived,” failed to explain how they missed that the child was still breathing.

I could have buried my child if he hadn’t started kicking from inside the plastic packet,” said the father who had filed a complaint of negligence with the police.
