President Murmu presents National Service Scheme Awards for the year 2020-21

The President of India, Droupadi Murmu presented the National Service Scheme Awards for the year 2020-2021 at Rashtrapati Bhavan today.Union Minister of Youth Affairs and Sports Shri Anurag Thakur and Minister of State for Youth Affairs & Sports Shri Nisith Pramanik attended the awards ceremony. Secretary, Youth Affairs, Shri Sanjay Kumar and Secretary, Sports, Smt. Sujata Chaturvedi and senior officers of the Ministry and other dignitaries were also present on the occasion.

 

Ministry of Youth Affairs & Sports, Department of Youth Affairs confers every year the National Service Scheme Award to recognize and reward outstanding contributions towards voluntary community service made by the Universities/ +2 Council, Programme Officers/NSS Units and NSS Volunteers, with a view to further promote NSS in the country. At Present, NSS has about 40 lakh volunteers on its rolls spread over the country.The details of National Service Scheme (NSS) Award for the year 2020-21 in 3 different categories are as under:

2 NSS Units and their Programme Officers 10+10 Rs.2,00,000/-     to    each    NSS    Unit    (For    NSS Programme Development), with a Trophy.

 

Rs. 1,50,000/- to each Programme Officer with a Certificate and a Silver Medal.
3 NSS Volunteers 30 Rs. 1,00,000/- to each Volunteer, with a Certificate and a Silver Medal.

NSS is a Centrally Sector Scheme which was launched in the year 1969 with the primary objective of developing the personality and character of the student youth through voluntary community service. The ideological orientation of the NSS is inspired by the ideals of Mahatma Gandhi. Very appropriately, the motto of NSS is “NOT ME, BUT YOU”(‘स्वयं से पहले आप’).

Briefly, the NSS volunteers work on issues of social relevance, which keep evolving in response to the needs of the community, through regular and special camping activities. Such issues include (i) literacy and education, (ii) health, family welfare and nutrition, (iii) environment conservation, (iv) social service programmes, (v) programmes for empowerment of women, (vi) programmes connected with economic development activities, (vii) rescue and relief during calamities, (viii) Swachhata activities, etc.

 

IMF chief Kristalina Georgieva calls on President Murmu

Ms Kristalina Georgieva, Managing Director of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) called on the President of India, Droupadi Murmu at Rashtrapati Bhavan today (September 9, 2022).

Welcoming Ms Georgieva to Rashtrapati Bhavan, the President said that the world is passing through the third year of the Covid pandemic. She noted that significant assistance has been provided to many low-income countries by multilateral institutions such as the IMF and the World Bank. She said that IMF has to play an important role in maintaining the stability of the International Monetary System.

The President said that today, India is one of the fastest growing major economies of the world. India’s start-up ecosystem ranks high in the world. The success of start-ups in our country, especially the growing number of Unicorns, is a shining example of our industrial progress. What is even more gratifying is that the development of our country is becoming more inclusive and regional disparities are also reducing. The basic mantra of today’s India is compassion – compassion for the downtrodden, compassion – for the needy and compassion – for the marginalized.

Speaking about the upcoming G-20 Summit in India in 2023, the President said that multilateral cooperation in the G-20 should be based on the principles of inclusion and flexibility, keeping in mind diversity. She expressed confidence that during India’s presidency, the G-20 Forum will move forward with an aspiration to make efforts to further strengthen multilateralism and global governance, in the direction of building a peaceful, sustainable and prosperous world for all.

 

Rashtrapati Bhavan will be open for public viewing for four days a week from tomorrow

Rashtrapati Bhavan will now be open for public viewing for four days in a week – Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday – from tomorrow (November 23, 2017) between 0900 hrs. to 1600 hrs. except on Gazetted Holidays.

Entry and exit for visitors will be through Gate No. 2 (Rajpath); Gate No. 37 (Hukmi Mai Marg); and Gate No. 38 (Church Road) of Rashtrapati Bhavan.

Visits can be booked on-line at the website http://rashtrapatisachivalaya.gov.in/rbtour. There are nominal registration charges of Rs. 50/- per head (Children below the age of 8 years will be exempt from these charges). Indian citizens are required to carry any valid photo ID Cards while foreign citizens are required to carry their original passport at the time of visit.
