Chhaava Vs Sikandar: Bollywood Films Set New Records in 2025 Box-Office Collections

In 2025, Bollywood witnessed the release of two major films—”Chhaava” and “Sikandar”—each offering unique narratives and showcasing significant performances. With a high-profile cast including Vicky Kaushal, Rashmika Mandanna, Akshaye Khanna, and Ashutosh Rana, Chhaava has set the benchmark for all upcoming Bollywood films and overwhelming the past records by several blockbusters.

Chhaava, produced with a substantial budget of approximately ₹200 crore, stands as a grand historical spectacle, showcasing elaborate production design and intricate period settings. Right from its release, the film made a significant impact at the box office, earning ₹31 crore on its opening day. Over four weeks, it amassed a net collection of ₹525.7 crore in India, reinforcing its dominance in the domestic market. On the global stage, Chhaava achieved a remarkable ₹691 crore in worldwide earnings, surpassing the lifetime collection of Sunny Deol’s Gadar 2, which stood at ₹686 crore.

When compared with previous Bollywood blockbusters, Chhaava finds itself in esteemed company. Salman Khan’s Bajrangi Bhaijaan (2015), made on a budget of ₹90 crore, grossed ₹969 crore worldwide, while Aamir Khan’s Dangal (2016), produced with ₹70 crore, achieved an extraordinary ₹2,024 crore globally.

In the historical drama genre, Padmaavat (2018), which had a budget of ₹215 crore, collected ₹585 crore worldwide. Meanwhile, the big-budget fantasy film Brahmastra (2022), made with ₹410 crore, managed to garner ₹430 crore at the global box office. With its impressive financial success, Chhaava has secured its place among the highest-grossing Bollywood films, further solidifying Bollywood’s ability to deliver large-scale, commercially successful epics.

Sikandar

Sikandar, produced with a budget of ₹180 crore (excluding Salman Khan’s remuneration), was backed by an additional ₹20 crore allocated for promotions and advertising. Even before its theatrical release, the film secured impressive non-theatrical revenue, mitigating financial risks. The OTT rights were sold to Netflix for ₹85 crore, with a clause that could increase the deal to ₹100 crore if the box office collection crosses ₹350 crore. Additionally, the satellite rights were acquired by Zee for ₹50 crore, while Zee Music Company secured the music rights for ₹30 crore. With a total potential non-theatrical revenue of ₹180 crore, the film had already recovered a significant portion of its production cost.

Released on March 30, 2025, Sikandar received positive initial reviews, and its box office figures were highly anticipated. Comparisons with previous Bollywood action blockbusters highlight its financial standing in the industry. Tiger Zinda Hai (2017), made on a ₹210 crore budget, amassed ₹565 crore worldwide, while War (2019), with a budget of ₹170 crore, collected ₹475 crore globally. Salman Khan’s Sultan (2016), produced for ₹145 crore, outperformed both with a staggering ₹623 crore worldwide. By securing major non-theatrical deals ahead of time, Sikandar showcased a strategic financial approach, ensuring stability regardless of its box office trajectory.

Both “Chhaava” and “Sikandar” have made notable contributions to Bollywood’s 2025 cinematic landscape. “Chhaava” has achieved remarkable box office success, while “Sikandar” has leveraged non-theatrical avenues to mitigate financial risks. These strategies reflect the evolving dynamics of Bollywood’s film production and distribution in a competitive market.

The track ‘Pyaar Karona’ aims to spread love and awareness amid the coronavirus pandemic and was written by Salman and Hussain Dalal.Composed by Sajid-Wajid and sung by Salman Khan himself, the teaser was uploaded on Twitter on April 20 on his YouTube channel.

The video begins with several hashtags, including “Being Human, India Fights Corona, Stay Home Stay Safe” as Salman sings in the background ‘Pyaar Karona, Ehtiyaat Karona.’

Salman Khan had earlier pledged to support 25,000 daily wage workers from the film industry stranded due to the nationwide lockdown. He had recently released a video criticising those flouting the rules and attacking the healthcare workers in parts of the country. India is under the lockdown in the wake of the coronavirus outbreak, which has infected over 15,000 people and claimed over 500 lives.

Jodhpur Court grants bail to Salman Khan

After a delay of two days, Bollywood actor Salman Khan was granted the bail in a 1998 blackbuck poaching case by the Jodhpur sessions court on Saturday. The actor will return to finish his films on priority while pending appeal to a higher court.

Jodhpur District and Sessions Court Judge Ravindra Kumar Joshi, who heard the bail plea on Friday postponed it to Saturday and was transferred the same day so new judge heard it today. The actor’s lawyer Mahesh Bora’s arguments listing 54 reasons for the bail in a 51-page bail application, raising a benefit of doubt as only Salman had been convicted out of six accused.

Apart from Salman Khan, other Bollywood stars Saif Ali Khan, Tabu, Sonali Bendre and Neelam were part of the hunting team on October 1-2 night in 1998 outside a reserve forest near Kankani village in Jodhpur. They were all shooting for “Hum Saath Saath Hain” film.

Salman was found guilty and convicted Salman under Section 9/51 of the Wildlife Protection Act as local Bishnoi community pressed for severe punishment to the actor for killing the blackbuck whcy they worship.

Salman had spent two days in the Jodhpur Central Jail as “Qaidi No. 106”.

In a country of 1.2 billion people, only 35 convicts have been jailed for wildlife crimes under the Wildlife Protection Act, 1972, usually most of them for poaching tigers and smuggling body parts, seahorse, snakes and other animals in India.

Blackbuck, known as Krishna mrig or Krishna saar and has been revered by local Bishnoi community and has been depicted in Maha Bhagavatam as pulling the chariot of Lord Krishna.

Salman Khan Spends 1 Night as Khaidi No. 106, Prepares for 1 More

Bollywood actor Salman Khan need to spend another night in Jodhpur jail as as Qaidi No. 106 as the Jodhpur sessions court will pass its order on his bail plea tomorrow morning. The actor had been jailed here three times in the past in 1998, 2006 and 2007, and had spent 18 days in total.

Salman Khan and his friends were booked for killing a black buck on the night of October 1-2 in 1998 at a reserve forest near Kankani village in Jodhpur while shooting for "Hum Saath Saath Hain". His other Bollywood buddies Saif Ali Khan, Tabu, Sonali Bendre and Neelam were acquitted in the case on Thursday.

Appealing for Salman Khan’s plea, his lawyer Hastimal Saraswat has reportedly raised 54 grounds seeking the actor’s bail but the remarks made by Chief Judicial Magistrate Dev Kumar Khatri on Thursday — describing Salman Khan a "habitual offender" under the wildlife protection laws of the country — may stand in the way.

The members of Bishnoi community, who worship the deer believing that it is a reincarnation of a 600-year-old guru, were fighting the case against the actor and his friends since they chased them and handed then over to the forest officials on the fateful night of Oct. 1, 1998.

Though Salman Khan was able to come out of his other legal battle in which he was booked under the allegations of killing a homeless man on Mumbai footpath in a drunken driving case, the Bishnoi community was steadfast nailing him down with their witness version in the court.

But the Bollywood is aghast as they have put Rs.600 crore on him, completely aware of the legal battle he was facing in the last 20 years. Unlike Sunil Dutt, who underwent similar prison term for over three years, the stakes were not so high as is the case now with Salman Khan, who is currently acting in "Race 3", "Dabangg 3", "Partner 2", "Kick 2′, "Bharat", "No Entry Mein Entry", "Sher Khan" and "Loveratri". Above all, the upcoming new edition of reality show "Bigg Boss" may have to do with some other host this year.

Though the actor has evolved from a trigger-happy hunter to a ‘Being Human’ philanthropist, the rule of law should remain the same for every one.

Salman Khan convicted in 1998 Chinkara poaching case, faces 6 yrs in jail

Salman Khan, who was freed in Mumbai drunken drive case, was convicted in another case of blackbuck poaching in Jodhpur, on Thursday, April 5.

Other actors Saif Ali Khan, Tabu, Sonali Bendre, Neelam, and a local resident Dushyant Singh were tried for abatement but are aquitted. Salman Khan appeared before the court on Thursday in the two-decade-old blackbuck (chinkara) poaching case, and was told by the court that he was convicted. The sentence will be pronounced tomorrow, Friday, April 6, 2018.

Salman Khan is currently busy with the shooting for his upcoming film Race 3 in Dubai and he took a day off to attend the court hearing. Salman’s sisters Arpita and Alvira arrived at the Jodhpur court and soon Saif, Bendre and Tabu joined them.

Before the verdict, Remo D’Souza, the director of Race 3, told New18, "Salman never talks about the case while shooting for his films. Same was the case during Abu Dhabi schedule of Race 3 after which the actor left for the verdict. The unit and everyone associated with his big Eid release is hoping for a closure to this long stretched case with a favorable verdict."
