What the Cockroach Janta Party is Planning Today in Delhi on EC Row

The opposition parties plan to intensify their protest by hitting the streets of Delhi today, 10th October 2026, demanding the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Gyanesh Kumar. The developments follow an Indian Express Investigation which exposed an internal rift in the Election Commission, revealing how EC commissioners SS Sandhu and Vivek Joshi raised at least 14 formal complaints in 10 months.

Their complaints pertain to Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls, unauthorized changes to form 6, unauthorized appeals and decisions made by CEC Gyanesh Kumar without sharing the knowledge with the other commissioners.

The Cockroach Janta Party has organized a large-scale protest in Delhi’s Jantar Mantar, joining hands with various student organizations. Some of these include All India Students Organization (AISA), members of the Student’s Federation of India (SFI) and All India Student’s Federation (AISF) among others.

AISA President Neha Bora has pledged to “lead this fight unitedly” and “take to the streets to raise people’s issues and defend their rights.” However, the CJP has been denied permission by the Delhi Police to protest in Delhi on Saturday, Oct. 10. These protests have been blocked, citing Section 163 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita. Additionally, train services will be cancelled, restrictions will be imposed at 57 metro stations, and liquor shops will remain closed for two days as part of security measures.

What the Delhi Police Said

Joint Commissioner of the Delhi Police, Nupur Prasad has grounded the denial of permission stating that the CJP was “not following the conditions as part of undertaking during the past protest,” referring to the July protests over NEET-UG paper leaks. CJP co-convener Saurav Das had submitted a letter informing the Delhi Police about the protest, three days before on October 7, 2026.

However, under the official guidelines, the application had to be submitted ten days in advance, a requirement the CJP dismissed as unnecessary to inform the police, given that Jantar Mantar is a designated protest site.

Apart from this, the INDIA bloc continues to push for CEC Gyanesh Kumar’s resignation and upholds their ‘vote chori’ claims. They will meet President Droupadi Murmu at 8pm on 9 October, 2026 to address the ongoing SIR row. The members of the delegation include Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi, West Bengal’s Ex-CM Mamata Banerjee, Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge, CPM general secretary MA Baby, RJD leader Tejaswi Yadav and CPI general secretary D Raja among others.

Aam Aadmi Party’s National Convenor Arvind Kejriwal has urged people to participate in the October 10 protests at Jantar Mantar. Kejriwal stated that he will be going and “my entire family will be going” as well. He further claimed that people who did not vote for the BJP were being deleted off the electoral list, openly under ECE Gyanesh Kumar.

Apart from this, the Karnataka Congress has launched their “Save Vote, Save Country” campaign at the block level panchayat from October 10 to 20, creating awareness about vote theft. There would be other meetings held from October 25 to November 25 as well for grassroot mobilization and outreach. KPCC President BK Hariprasad had reiterated the commitment of the Congress in identifying the names deleted through Form 7 and later restoring them via ground-level surveys.

No permission to AAP protest, says Delhi Police; Security beefed up at PM residence

Delhi Police said on Tuesday that it has not given permission to AAP to hold any protest, reports ANI. However, entry/exit at Lok Kalyan Marg Metro station, Gate no 3 of Patel Chowk Metro Station, and Gate no 5 of Central Secretariat Metro Station will remain closed.

Security at the Prime Minister’s residence has been beefed up by the Delhi Police following the AAP’s announcement of a protest on Tuesday to “gherao” the premises in response to Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal’s arrest.

“Due to security reasons, entry/exit at Lok Kalyan Marg Metro station, Gate no 3 of Patel Chowk Metro Station and Gate no 5 of Central Secretariat Metro station will remain closed till further notice,” Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) said in a post on X.

“Large number of security personnel, including paramilitary forces, were seen deployed at Patel Chowk after a call was given by AAP to gather here before the march,” said a senior Delhi Police official.

The Delhi Traffic Police have advised commuters to avoid routes, including Kemal Ataturk Marg, Safdarjung Road, Akbar Road and Teen Murti Marg.

“Commuters are requested to cooperate by avoiding/bypassing these roads, if possible, and make maximum use of public transport,” said the official. “People, who are going towards ISBT/Railway Stations/Indira Gandhi Airport, are advised to carefully plan their travel with sufficient time at hand,” he added.

“General public and motorists are advised to keep patience, observe traffic rules and road discipline and follow directions of traffic personnel deployed at all intersections,” the official said.

As the RRR fim song ‘Naatu Naatu’ has won the Golden Globe award for ‘Best Original Song’, one person who deserves a Thank You is Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, who gave the permission to shoot the song in front of the Presidential Palace, portraying the British era building in 1920s in India.

When the film was shot in August 2021, the war clouds were not there and the film shooting was done to evade the Covid-ridden countryside in India by the film’s director S.S. Rajamouli, who was able to get the permission from Zelensky, who happened to be a former actor himself and was responsive to the request.

Mariinskyi Palace where RRR song “Naatu Naatu” was filmed

known as the Mariinskyi Palace, the ornate presidential palace of Ukraine served a perfect venue for the shoot of the song sequence “Naatu Naatu” where the British officials were shown assembling for festive celebrations in the movie RRR.

Originally constructed in 1752 during the period of the Russian Empress Elizaveta Petrovna by her architect Bartolomeo Rastrelli, the palace served as the main residence of the Governors-General. It underwent several restorations, the last one in the 1980s.

In his interview two years ago, director SS Rajamouli had said, “We shot the Naatu Naatu song in Ukraine. It is a real location. Actually, it is the Ukrainian President’s palace. There is a parliament right beside the palace. Luckily, they gave us permission to shoot because the Ukrainian president was a television actor. The funny thing is that he acted as the President in a TV series before becoming the President.”

The Ukraine leg was the last shooting schedule of the film and when the situation in Ukraine got escalated into a war with Russia, Rajamouli was sad. “We had gone there to shoot some crucial scenes. When we were shooting, I had no idea about the issues that have now escalated into a war. It was only after I returned and looking at things now, did I understand the seriousness of the issue,” he told in the interview.

‘Naatu Naatu’ was composed by Rajamouli’s brother MM Keeravani and the original Telugu lyrics were written by Chandrabose. Rahul Sipligunj and Kaala Bhairava lend their voice in Telugu and KD Harisankar, Yazin Nizar, and Vishal Mishra to the dubbed versions and above all the credit goes to high-octane dance sequence choreographed by Prem Rakshith.

MRP Plus GST Display Allowed till December

The government has allowed the manufacturers or packers or importers of pre-packaged commodities to declare the revised retail sale price (MRP) in addition to the existing retail sale price (MRP) for three more months from October 1 to December 31, 2017. Earlier, it was allowed for three months from 1st July 2017 to 30th September, 2017.

The government said the permission was given on account instances where the retail sale price of a pre-packaged commodity is required to be changed but not undertaken yet. The declaration of the changed retail sale price (MRP) was allowed to be made by way of stamping or putting sticker or online printing, as the case may be.

Use of unexhausted packaging material/wrapper was also been allowed upto 30th September, 2017 after making the necessary corrections. “Considering the requests received to extend the permission for some more time it has been extended to display the revised MRP due to implementation of GST by way of stamping or putting sticker or online printing for a further period of three months, up to 31st December, 2017,” said a statement by the Ministry of Consumer Affairs, Food & Public Distribution.
